Our princesses deserve that special dress, and an antique dress is something that is extra special, handmade with love and made from natural fibres usually in beautiful linens and lace. A dress that is one of a kind and when your little darling has grown out of it can be used as decoration or as a beautiful heirloom. These antique dresses are perfect for special portrait days, parties, weddings, and christenings and just for looking cute!

Getting the right size is a daunting thought because we don't want to make a mistake. Hopefully I can help you squash that fear by using my measuring guide, here goes......

Find a dress that fits your child well, and lay the dress down on a flat surface. Firstly start with the neck size, and measure around the collar with a tape measure or even string to get the neck

measurements. Note some dresses have drawstring necklines, so are adjustable. For the shoulder to shoulder measurement take the tape measure, and measure from the shoulder before the sleeve seam to the other side. ( imagine you are measuring your child’s shoulders). The chest measurement is under the armpit, so you measure armpit to armpit, ( that is an easy one)

The waist measurement is really for fitted dresses and measure straight across the waist.

The length of the dress is taken from measuring the shoulder to the end of the skirt.

You may want to give a little more room in the neck and chest to make way for a little growth spurt, so this way of measuring allows room for you to do that, and voila we have done it!

It is definitely worth the effort to find that perfect antique, vintage dress, as there is no comparison between a dress today and a beautifully made antique linen and lace dress.
